Yogyakarta Private Day Tour

A private Yogyakarta day tour gives you your own vehicle, a driver and a route that fits what you want to see, instead of a fixed group schedule. Most visitors use it to reach the big sights outside the city in one day: Borobudur, Prambanan and Mount Merapi. This page shows the options we plan to offer and how to choose between them. Everything is priced on request until the operator confirms rates and ticket inclusions.

What a private day tour covers

The central Java region has three headline sights within roughly a day’s drive of Yogyakarta:

• Borobudur is a UNESCO-listed Buddhist temple in Magelang, roughly 1 to 1.5 hours from the city by car. Sunrise there is a major draw.
• Prambanan is a Hindu temple complex about 17 to 18 km east of the city, around 30 to 40 minutes by car.
• Mount Merapi is an active volcano north of the city, about an hour’s drive. Jeep tours run on the lower southern slope; the summit is closed.

You can combine two of them in a long morning or all three in a long day. Mornings are usually the best time for the temples (cooler, fewer crowds) and for the volcano view.

Choosing your route

• One day, three sights: take the 12-hour private tour. It is a long day, so be honest about stamina.
• Half a day: choose Borobudur at sunrise plus Merapi, or Merapi alone.
• Temples only: ask for a custom route with Borobudur and Prambanan and we will add the Prambanan visit around opening hours.

What affects the price

We will confirm a quote with these points itemised:

1. Group size and vehicle. Jeep prices are per jeep, up to 4 guests; private car prices depend on the group.
2. Temple tickets. They are the largest swing between offers. Reported foreign-adult prices (secondary sources, confirm before booking): Prambanan about IDR 375,000-415,000, Borobudur temple climb about IDR 455,000, Setumbu Hill about IDR 50,000.
3. Length of the day and any extra stops.
4. Pick-up area. To be confirmed.

Cruise-ship and stopover visitors

If you arrive in Central Java for a short stop, tell us your arrival and departure times when you message us. We will say honestly whether a given route fits. We do not promise connections we cannot confirm.

Volcano status and safety

If your day includes Merapi: the volcano has been at Alert Level III (Siaga) since November 2020. Status checked 12 October 2026; BPPTKG still reported Level III on 7 October. The summit is closed, with a restricted zone of about 3 km. Jeep tours stay on the lower slopes and a trip can be changed or postponed if activity or weather requires it.
